Replica Fort Whoop-Up adopts Emergency Response Strategy based on Challenges Faced by Original Fort Whoop-Up

Today marks a strategic milestone in the history of the replica Fort Whoop‑Up, as staff officially adopted a comprehensive emergency response plan. The framework is designed to address risks including fire, flood, and the clandestine sale of unregulated consumable liquids.

In stark contrast to the original Fort Whoop‑Up’s late‑1800s operational strategies firmly rooted in the principles of the Wild West, the modern plan emphasizes coordination and collaboration among government, municipal authorities, and strategic partners. Its goal is to save lives, minimize suffering, and reduce damage during emergency situations.

“We felt it was time to take the cautionary tales of yesteryear into consideration and apply modern solutions,” said Connor Kenney, Site Coordinator at Fort Whoop‑Up. “This plan helps us build a framework focused on the preservation and safety of both our site and our community.”

Kenney added, “I’m not entirely sure why the decision was made to build a replica fort on a floodplain, nestled in a hotbed of dry tinder—but here we are, and we need a plan for that.”
