HOSTS OF CANADIAN PICKERS AT CAFÉ GALT

Sun APR 10 | 2:00 pm | doors open at 1:00 pm for exhibit viewing

People familiar with Cineflix’s “American Pickers” can’t wait for the April 12 premiere of Cineflix’s new series Canadian Pickers, featuring hosts Scott Cozens and Sheldon Smithens who will be at the Galt Museum & Archives for Café Galt: Canadian Pickers on Sunday, April 10 beginning at 2:00 pm.

As part of their 'behind the scenes' look at the new series — premiering on History Television on Tuesday, April 12 at 10:00 pm ET/PT — Smithens and Cozens will talk of their adventures, the people, places and search for antique treasure in southern Alberta and across the country.

What began as a childhood hobby has since grown into a lifelong pursuit for passionate picker Scott Cozens. Once a journeyman electrician who now works as a full-time Alberta lawyer, Scott loves leaving the office behind to head out on a no-holds-barred picking expedition. And with his keen eye for detail and a soft spot for 20th Century Collectibles, Scott can scan a room for treasure in no time flat!

A third generation antiques dealer, auctioneer and appraiser by trade, Sheldon Smithens has an encyclopaedic knowledge of everything rare and collectible. Teaching continuing education courses in antiques collecting at the University of Calgary, Sheldon’s particular interest lies in fine antiques and anything involving Canadian history. Sheldon loves to get his hands dirty and dive into a good pick. But as much as he enjoys the thrill of the hunt, he’s just as passionate about the people and stories he encounters along the way.

No stranger to Lethbridge, Smithens has provided advise to the Collections department at the Galt and was an important resource during the 2007 exhibit Auschwitz: The Eva Brewster Story.  He has also been involved in the Southern Alberta Art Gallery’s Art Auctions and Appraisal Days with colleague Doug Levis.

Café Galt is free with admission and for annual pass holders, and includes exhibit access and refreshments.  Doors open at 1:00 pm to view the related exhibit Fakes & Forgeries: Yesterday and Today, an interactive travelling exhibit produced by the Royal Ontario Museums, which closes later that day at 4:30 pm.  For details visit www.galtmuseum.com, call 403.320-3954, or email info@galtmuseum.com
