Get our your Brilcreem, put on your poodle skirt and get ready to welcome Danny, Sandy, the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies to the Galt Museum & Archives 1950s Sock Hop & “Grease Sing-A-Long” on Saturday, May 7 from 6:30 pm to 1:00 am as part of the Historic Lethbridge Festival running May 3-8.
A newly restored print of the popular musical Grease (1978) brings the highest-grossing musical of all time to the big screen as a sing-along: the lyrics will be shown on the screen during the songs for audience participation. The Oscar nominated movie is about teen love in the ‘50s, and stars John Travolta as bad boy Danny and Olivia Newton-John as good girl Sandy; it is rated PG13.
“It seems that many people consider Grease one of their favourite movies,” says Lori Harasem, Special Events Coordinator at the Galt Museum & Archives. “Knowing that this year the Historic Lethbridge Festival was celebrating the 1950's made this an excellent opportunity to screen the Grease Sing-A-Long movie and follow that with a Sock Hop to replicate the fun we had at last year's 1940's Dance Hall. "

The event also includes 1950s activities, hula hoop, bubble blowing and costume contests, as well as dance lessons and a Sock Hop following the screening. A bar and concession will be open.
Admission to the full event is $40 per person or 2 for $75; tables of six are available for $200. Tickets for the Movie & Dance only are $20 each; doors will open at 8:45 pm for these ticket holders. Tickets are available at the Galt Museum Store, or by phone at 403.320-3954.
