Renaissance Faire 2025 Reacap!
Renaissance Fair 2025 at Fort Whoop-Up Exceeds Expectations
Like all great ideas,
the Renaissance Faire began as a simple musing among museum staff. It’s no secret that the Galt’s programming and events have been expanding and becoming more refined in recent years. So, the decision to launch another large-scale, fun event - alongside annual favorites like the Lethbridge Independent Film Fest (LIFF) and Bridge and Brews Beerfest felt like a natural next step.
The weekend kicked off on Friday, August 29, with a sold-out evening in the Galt’s Viewing Gallery featuring medieval dining and dancing. Prime Catering served a delicious themed meal, followed by a lively dance lesson led by the Lethbridge Medieval Club.
On Saturday, August 30, the Renaissance Faire exceeded all expectations. A fantastical lineup of elves, dwarfs, peasants, fairies, and other whimsical fantasy dwellers stretched hundreds of feet down the Fort Whoop-Up sidewalk as eager guests waited to enter. Parents dropping off novice-level wizards, as well as knights and maidens in motorcoaches circled the river bottom in search of parking as the excitement mounted.
Inside the Fort Whoop-Up compound, guests were immersed in a vibrant medieval experience. Highlights included the local weaving guild, tarot and astrology readings, face painting, armor and wares for sale, a sword-fighting tournament, archery lessons, and more. Fort staff led crafting activities for all ages, and LARPing was alive and well. One patron, encouraged by a wayfaring warlock to choose a scroll revealing their destiny, was “cursed” with a terrible disease—survival odds not looking great!
All in all, the event was a huge success, and we’re already excited to start planning for Renaissance Faire 2026!
