Lethbridge – As light begins fading earlier, it’s time to bring out your flashlight and curiosity to join Belinda Crowson, Galt Museum & Archives Museum Educator, on the annual Cemetery Tours by Flashlight where you will experience a fun and respectful walk in the dark, and discover the little-talked about stories of Lethbridge history.

In total, fourteen 50-minute tours are planned this fall, taking place Friday October 10 and 24 at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 pm, Saturday October 11 and 25 at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 pm, and Thursday October 23 at 7:00 and 8:00 pm.

A limited number of tickets are available for each tour at the Galt Museum Store and online starting Tuesday, September 2 at 10:00 am. Tickets are $5/person, or $4 each for annual pass holders, and must be paid for at time of ordering. Phone orders are accepted, call 403.320-3954. This popular program has sold out each year.

Ticket holders meet at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery gates on far west end of 6 Avenue North.  Be sure to dress warmly, wear good sturdy walking shoes, bring along a flashlight and, just maybe, somebody to hold hands with - the tours make for a great October date night!

A couple who attended last year remarked, “…you get hear about some of southern Alberta's more unseemly events that took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s.” And from a teacher who brought a group on a flashlight tour: “Thanks for an awesome cemetery tour last Wednesday night. The kids, the parents and I really enjoyed ourselves. It was educational and interesting to learn about our local history.”

Upcoming 2014 Galt special programs and events include the 60s-themed Beer (& wine) Tasting (September 5); All Ages Cooking (September 14); Museum Community Evening Harvest Festival (September 27); Hatsumi film screening (November 20); and A Night at the Museum Shopping Event (November 27). For more details on the Galt Museum & Archives and additional programs and special events, call the information desk at 403.320-3954 or visit www.galtmuseum.com.
