“3 DIMENSIONS SHOW” PART OF LOCAL, PROVINCIAL, NATIONAL ARTS AND CULTURE CELEBRATIONS

FRI-sat SEP 30 – OCT 1 | 10 – 4:30 & Sun OCT 2 | 1 – 4:30

Twenty-two local and area artists will be represented in the fourth annual 3D Sculpture Show at the Galt Museum & Archives in celebration of the 2011 Lethbridge Arts Days ArtWalk - a self-guided tour of art venues and performance events organized by Allied Arts Council Lethbridge, coinciding with Alberta Arts Days and the nation-wide Culture Days, all running September 30 – October 2.

“This year artists from Southern Alberta have submitted wheel thrown and hand built clay pieces,” says Curator Wendy Aitkens, who oversees the juried exhibit, “as well as carved and turned art made from exotic woods, a copper and wrought iron bird bath, mixed media pieces that incorporate clay and found objects, acrylics and wood, textiles and jewellery, and a cardboard and tape space ship.”

Returning artists showing new work are: Roy A. Bartz, Carolla Christie, Marie Imrie de Gomez, Rosemary Foder, Vicki K. Gibson, Len Komanac, Marlene Lacey, Heather MacDonald-Sorochan, and Renee Pahara.  New to the 2011 exhibit are JoDee Allen, George Androkovic, Carmen Bankonin, Debbie Coates, Lynne Dewhirst, Craig Fawcett, Yves Gauthier, Judie Gibb, Rick Gillis, Darlene Hare, Valerie Cecilia Jensen, Jim and Eileen Jones and Andrew Martin.

“The quality and depth of these pieces will engage and challenge visitors, says Aitkens. “There is artwork stimulated by diverse subjects such as a child's pet gecko, the health care system in Alberta, and dance.” The work will be displayed in the Servus Credit Union Learning Studio.

A number of artists will provide demonstrations such as wood turning on a lathe with the Chinook Wood Turners Guild, wheel thrown pottery by members of the Oldman River Potters Association, hand thrown pottery by Alisha Koppert [Friday only], and hand built monsters by Andrew Martin [Saturday and Sunday only].
