A Role or Everyone: The Playgoers of Lethbridge

  • 502 1 Street South Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1Y4 (map)

For over a century, the Playgoers of Lethbridge have been an important part of the local theatre community. Still going strong today, this exhibition is packed full of archival images and historical artifacts celebrating the Playgoers past, present, and future.

The Galt Museum & Archives | Akaisamitohkanao’pa is proud to showcase their history in our newest temporary exhibition A Role for Everyone: The Playgoers of Lethbridge, on display now until February 8, 2026.

Co-curated by key members within the Playgoers team, the exhibition features a wealth of archival images and artifacts showcasing memorable moments over the past century. From historic productions to contemporary events, the Playgoers story continues today.

“We’re thrilled to share a glimpse of the Playgoers’ 102-year journey within our community,” says Elaine Jagielski, Playgoers lifetime member and one of the exhibition’s co-curators. “Curating this exhibit has been a true pleasure.”

Of vital importance to the exhibition’s development has been the work of Playgoers unofficial historian George Mann. A talented actor, Mann also directed shows, served on the board, and along with his wife Nellie, helped in countless other ways. “Much of our legacy lives in the remarkable scrapbooks lovingly compiled by George and Nellie Mann,” Jagielski explains. Mann has authored two books on local theatre history and is still going strong at the age of 94.

Stories within the exhibition celebrate notable productions, the many locations where shows have been presented, and the constellation of characters responsible for making the group so successful.
