September 27th, 2025 - Exhibit opens!
Treasures and Curiosities
Did you know the museum has over 17,000 artifacts in our collection? Since 1964, the museum has cared for the history of southwestern Alberta. These objects show the history of the area: the Nitsitapii (Blackfoot) people, settlers, and newcomers. Items from many different cultures are part of the museum’s collection.
Treasures and Curiosities invites the community to see these objects up close. Over 100 community members chose items to showcase and shared stories about their picks. Through this exhibition, we’re excited to make new memories and connections.
Join us in this celebration of history, culture and community. What Treasures & Curiosities will you discover?
Youth Choice!
Discovering the collection isn’t just for grown-ups! Selections by our 20 youth participants are showcased here in the main floor hallway.
Database on Display
Did you know the museum’s collection is accessible online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? It includes hundreds of thousands of items, from physical objects to archival documents. This collection is a key resource in caring for our region's history.
Providing public access to the collection is important. We often loan items to other museums. Researchers all over the world use our archival documents. You can explore too by searching the collections database below. Discover what Treasures and Curiosities await you!
Treasured Volunteers
This exhibition was made possible by our amazing volunteers. A total of 16 people helped community members find their chosen objects. These kind volunteers dedicated over 200 hours to support the project.
We salute their work! They also selected objects for display. Find their picks in the special exhibits gallery!
