Chief Crowfoot was a leader of the Siksika Nation. He was born in 1830 near the Belly River. As he grew older he also became well respected for his skills as a diplomat. Crowfoot welcomed the North-West Mounted Police to his land, recognizing them as an ally and he played an important role in the signing of Treaty 7 in 1877. During the last years of his life, he became disillusioned with the Canadian government and he lost many of his children to sickness. This image is based on a picture of Crowfoot from 1890–1891.
