Lethbridge, AB – Water—it’s essential to life, and to our ways of life in southern Alberta. But where does our water come from? What is the story of its journey from the Rocky Mountains, through the foothills, prairies and downstream?

Water in a Dry Land looks at the past, present and future of interacting water uses in the Oldman watershed. It celebrates our relationship with water and strengthens our understanding of the history of this precious resource, in a region where water is sometimes taken for granted. With contributions from water experts in the community, Water in a Dry Land weaves together diverse perspectives, artifacts and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.

The content of this exhibit creates a rich story of the history of the watershed in southwestern Alberta. “This is an important exhibit for the Galt Museum, as this community and the Oldman Watershed share a fascinating and intricate history”, says Galt Museum & Archives Curator, Aimee Benoit.

Visitors are invited to join the Galt Museum’s Water in A Dry Land photo group. This group will serve as an online gallery celebrating southwestern Alberta’s precious water resources. The Museum will present a digital slideshow of selected images in our Water in a Dry Land exhibit. Photographers are invited to submit images of their water experience to the Galt Flickr page. Be sure to bring your friends and family to the Museum to see your selected photos on exhibit.
