Introducing New Benefits for Members to the Galt Museum and Fort Whoop-Up

Lethbridge—The Galt is launching a new and upgraded membership program for its valued existing members and aspiring members.

As the ways in which people visit cultural institutions has changed during recent years, and visitors are increasingly engaging online, the Galt has decided to revamp its membership program to better appeal to the audience in southwestern Alberta.

The biggest new feature is that memberships for Fort Whoop-Up and the Galt Museum & Archives | Akaisamitohkanao’pa will now be combined. Visitors who hold an annual membership will be able to visit both cultural sites free of charge—the Galt year-round and Fort Whoop-Up seasonally during summer months and special occasions throughout the year.

“The occasion to reimagine our engagement with our loyal visitors is timely,” said Darrin Martens, CEO of the Galt Museum & Archives. “Maintaining classic benefits and adding new ones demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the community and leadership in developing new opportunity for members near and far.”

The membership is now digital—passes will be saved on the guest’s smartphone for quick and easy entry to the museum and the fort. For Household and Dual Adult memberships, two adults will be able to save the digital membership. Those who may prefer a physical member’s card can still request one if desired.

Membership Categories Galt & Fort Whoop-Up
Household $50 / year
Grandparent $40 / year
Dual Adult $40 / year
Adult $30 / year
Senior $25 / year
Post-Secondary $25 / year
Non-profit Social Support Services Agencies  $120 / year

Members also receive a discount on wagon rides at Fort Whoop-Up (seasonally and operationally dependent).

Additionally, all members will be granted half-price admission for a guest during each visit—this will encourage couples and groups to visit the Galt and the fort, and increase overall attendance to programs and exhibitions. With a reciprocal arrangement with the Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) and Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden, membership holders will also receive 50% off admission to these other valued organizations in Lethbridge.

The Galt has added the aforementioned new benefits while maintaining the existing benefits of:

  • 10% off online and in-person shopping at the Galt and fort stores

  • free or discounted entry to special events and lectures

  • invitations to exhibition openings and private activities for members

  • subscription to the museum’s calendar of events and monthly newsletter

The membership costs remain accessible, with the same or lower rates to similar museums, and discounted or grouped rates for post-secondary students, seniors, grandparents, and households with children. The addition of a Dual Adult membership grants pairs of people an easy way to engage with the Galt and share in the benefits together.

The Galt is committed to continuing its collaboration with other not-for-profit groups. A new, unique membership designed for non-profit social services agencies has been introduced: the agency’s clients will receive membership benefits for one year and their caregivers will, as always, receive free admission.

The new membership program launches on June 29, coinciding with the opening of Fort Whoop-Up. The Galt as an organization is excited to welcome visitors to both the museum and fort this summer as we introduce ways to better serve members and non-members alike.
