Fort Whoop-Up open for special winter season

Lethbridge—Winter is here. Get outside and enjoy the fort’s special winter season on weekends and select days throughout December.
Enjoy winter wagon and sleigh rides as weather allows, old-fashioned Christmas crafts, individually packed treats, an outdoor fire in the fort’s compound, a traditional gift to take home, and a special seasonal photo fundraiser in support of the Friends of the Galt Endowment Fund.
“The staff at the fort will be disinfecting all high-touch surfaces to let kids and adults alike enjoy themselves in a safe and healthy environment,” says CEO/ED Darrin J Martens. “As we have during the summer, we will be time ticketing entry to ensure that our visitors have space to physically distance during our guided tours and activities.”
Fort Whoop-Up will be open on December 5 and 6, 12 and 13, and 19 through 23. Guided tours and activities will run hourly from 11 am onwards, with the last self-guided tour group starting at 3 pm.
“Tickets to the event will be limited to 10 people per hour and masks will be required for all visitors, so book your spots soon at fort.galtmuseum.com/visit.” says Site Coordinator Natasha Gray.
Local professional photographer Melanie Cervo from Photo Expressions will be on site to take Christmas-themed photos just outside the Fort for booked-in visitors and walk-ups.
“We know that Christmas photos are an annual tradition for many families and individuals, and many may not feel comfortable or able to get them taken at an indoor venue,” says Martens. “That’s why we are providing a physically distanced, outdoor option to help folks feel comfortable and safe taking these memorable photos for friends and family. Book a tour online, or come down to Fort Whoop-Up between 11 am and 4 pm on the days we’ll be open for the winter season to get yours taken by donation.”
Donations for the photos to support the Friends of the Galt Endowment Fund will be gladly accepted on site or they can be made online at friends.galtmuseum.com/donations.
“The Friends of the Galt Endowment Fund is important for the future sustainability of the museum and fort,” says Volunteer and Resource Development Coordinator Chris Roedler. “The fund helps sustain our world-class exhibits and programs.”
