History of local media showcased in new student-developed permanent exhibit

Thanks to the efforts of an excellent museum studies intern, the Galt Museum & Archives | Akaisamitohkanao’pa has redeveloped part of its Discovery Hall permanent exhibit gallery to showcase the history of local media in southwestern Alberta. From the early days of newspaper through advances in radio and television broadcasting, media outlets have played a critical role in sharing the stories of our community.

Battle of the Belly River Project Seeks to Amplify Niitsitapi Voices

The Battle of the Belly River is a significant event that happened between the Blackfoot People and a group of Crees in 1870. The Galt Museum & Archives | Akaisamitohkanao’pa, in partnership with Lethbridge College, Reconciliation Lethbridge and the City of Lethbridge Indigenous Relations Office, are embarking on a project that will focus on and highlight Niitsitapi knowledge and perspectives of the event.

Galt Museum Receives Blackfoot Name

The Galt Museum & Archives is honoured to announce that it has been granted a Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) name: Akaisamitohkanao’pa.

At-home Learning Cohorts Can Book Education Programs at the Galt

Parents and caregivers who are doing at-home learning with their children in the fall can now book the Galt's curriculum-based education programs for their at-home learning cohort groups.
