Join us for an engaging Sustainable Fashion Seminar exploring how conscious design, ethical production, and circular practices are reshaping the industry. Learn practical strategies to reduce waste, make informed choices, and be part of fashion’s sustainable future from an indigenous two-eyed seeing approach. Roberta Hibbert is a Mi’kmaq tailor, designer, educator, and entrepreneur from Sipekne’katik First Nation, and the owner of The Top Stitch in Bedford, NS. Since 2021, she has grown the business into a community hub for Indigenous fabrics, alterations, sewing classes, embroidery, and bespoke services—earning the Halifax Platinum Award for Tailoring and Alteration Services.
She is also the founder of Elisawey Designs, created in honor of her late grandmother, Marie Pictou. Her work has been featured in fundraisers such as Pump Couture – Diabetes Canada and in local galleries, including her ribbon skirt design “The Spirit of the Red Dress.”
Roberta holds a Sustainable Fashion Management Certificate from the European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability in Milan, Italy, and is preparing to launch a social enterprise focused on sustainability and textile recycling. Her designs are inspired by Mi’kmaq storytelling, nature, and the teaching that “water is life.” By incorporating denim and recycled materials, she highlights the importance of reducing our environmental footprint, promoting clean water, and creating for the next 7 generations.
