Discover the history of the 113th Overseas Battalion CEF: The Lethbridge Highlanders.

Canada's involvement in the First World War began in August 1914. By 1917, Lethbridge claimed to have one of Canada's highest enlistment rates, which also brought one of the highest casualty rates. Volunteers of all ages and walks of life stood in line to claim the local artillery unit's limited positions. The Canadian Corps of the Great War was not made up of professional soldiers but consisted of volunteer citizen-soldiers who were ordinary men from communities like Lethbridge who found themselves at a crossroads in Canadian history.
