Alberta's Italian History: A Lethbridge Take

Adriana Davies delivers an online presentation hosted live at the Galt about her new book From Sojourners to Citizens: Alberta's Italian History. The publication brings to life the untold story of Italian immigrants in Alberta from the 1880s to the present. It places them in the narrative of province building from work on railways, mines and other industries to breaking the land for agriculture. Excerpts from family and community histories allow the men, women and children to speak for themselves. What emerges is an unquenchable desire to make good and overcome sometimes intolerable working conditions and discrimination, which culminated with enemy alien designation and internment during the Second World War.

The Galt is grateful to the subject-matter experts delivering online content. As local professionals and knowledge experts, these presenters add valuable contributions to the local discourse; however, their ideas are their own. The people featured in the videos and those behind the scenes followed best practices to protect their health and safety.
