Open Film Call

We want to screen your film.

The Galt Museum & Archives | Akaisamitohkanao’pa (eternal gathering place) and Fort Whoop-Up are announcing an open call for short films for the Lethbridge Independent Film Festival, formerly known as Lethbridge OnScreen Film Festival. As the festival has grown in scope, we have changed the name to grow with it.

Any aspect of audiovisual expression – visual, sound, narrative, genre, performance, theme... all approaches are encouraged for submission. This includes music videos. Films that exemplify and/or are made by under-represented voices will be prioritized. Films selected by the jury will be screened at the Lethbridge Independent Film Festival on September 7 and 8, 2024. In alignment with the Galt’s Mandate, the Lethbridge Independent Film Festival aims to deepen the sense of belonging for our community by reflecting the world around us with a community-centred approach.

Entry Guidelines:

  • Films may be feature length or short. Short films should ideally be 20 minutes or under, but some considerations will be made for longer shorts.

  • Media links should connect to a video streaming service (YouTube, Vimeo, etc...). Links to file sharing service (WeTransfer, SwissTransfer, Google Drive, etc...) are unable to be considered.

  • If the media link is password protected, please provide all needed info.

  • Limit 1 entry per person.

  • Each application should include 2-3 high resolution stills from—or that represent—the film, and if applicable, the film poster.

Submission deadline: May 31, 2024
Successful applicants notified (please note unsuccessful applicants will not be notified): June 30, 2024
Screening: September 7 and 8, 2024
Artist Fee: Successful candidates will receive a screening fee
Submission fee: Free

Our team would like to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 7 territory - the traditional and ancestral territory of Niitsitapii, the Blackfoot Confederacy, including Kainai, Piikani and Siksika First Nations. As well as most recently the TsuuT'ina Nation, Stoney Nakoda First Nation and the Metis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
