“WEDNESDAYS AT THE GALT” ARE FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART

Twice monthly Program | First & Third WEDNESDAY monthly | 2:00-3:00 pm

The year-round Wednesdays at the Galt program for ages 55+ at the Galt Museum & Archives is offered twice monthly on the first and third Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, with a focus on history topics this May through August focusing on Parthenon sculptures, the HMCS Lethbridge, Empress Theatre Centennial, the War of 1812, Blackfoot History and more!

MAY 02   HMCS Lethbridge Retired Warrant Officer Glenn Miller will share the continuing story of his research into the WW2 flower class corvette, His Majesty’s Canadian Ship Lethbridge, and the role it played in the Battle of Atlantic.

16          Losing their Marbles?: The British Museum, the Parthenon Sculptures, and Cultural Imperialism Charleen Davidson, M. MSt., examines the issues of repatriation through a study of the Elgin Marbles by exploring the right to own antiquity, the multiplicity of museum objects and the concept of the Universal Museum.

JUN 06   Empress Theatre: 100 Years Empress Theatre CEO Brent Hutchinson looks back at the first 100 years of this Fort Macleod landmark.   

20          Shaping our Nation: War of 1812 As much as the victory at Vimy Ridge over 100 years later, the War of 1812 helped forge Canada’s identity. For two years the British, Canadians and First Nations fought together to secure Canada as an independent nation. Characters like Brock, Fitzgibbons, Tecumseh and Laura Secord became part of our folklore. Historian and best-selling author Norman Leach brings the war to life through multi-media story-telling.

JUL 04  Blackfoot History See and touch educational artifacts related to Blackfoot history and culture in a hands-on presentation with Blackfoot interpreter Blanche Bruisedhead.

AUG 01 Downtown Walking Tour Meet us at the Galt for a walking tour of downtown Lethbridge history. 

15       Southern Alberta Linguistics Do Southern Albertans speak English differently, and if so, why? Explore local language and dialect with linguist Dr. Nicole Rosen.

 The program runs from 2:00–3:00 pm; registration is not required. Admission is free for annual pass holders, or $4 per week for seniors [65+], $5 for adults, and includes exhibit access.
