Lethbridge – The Galt Museum & Archives celebrate Canada's 147th birthday with old-fashioned games, crafts, music, dance, exhibits and more on Tuesday, July 1 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Free admission for the day is made possible by the support of a Celebrate Canada Grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage.

Activities are geared at all age groups, and include making a fabric Canada Day garland to decorate the museum and take-home crafts too; a bubble gum blowing contest; old-fashioned games like potato sack races, giant Twister, water relay; competing for prizes in the Canadian Music Trivia Room; completing a new Treasure Hunt in the Discovery Hall, and more.

New this year are dance performances with Nefertiti, taking the stage at 1:30 pm, and the Rocky Mountain Cloggers at 3:00 pm. Local acoustic musicians The Bryant and Watson Duo will provide food for the soul with their unique blend of original and covers spanning multiple generations. Festival foods will be available at the event at a reasonable cost, and popcorn will be free.

“We’re looking forward to the addition of dance performances this year, and it’s fantastic that Joel Bryant and Pete Watson will be with us again,” says Leslie Hall, Community Programs Coordinator at the Galt. “With the federal Celebrate Canada Grant we can offer free admission and old-timey fun for the whole family!”

Exhibits featured at the Canada Day event include “Woven in Time: Celebrating 65 Years with Lethbridge Weavers”, “Soap & Hope”, “Lethbridge’s Experiences in the First World War” and a new “Archives Exposed…” display of commercial projects by the A.E. Cross Studio.
