The Galt’s Education Programs Have New Online Presence

Lethbridge – As part of an initiative to build the profile of the diverse educational programs designed for students of all ages in our region, the Galt Museum & Archives has launched a new website for teachers at http://education.galtmuseum.com. The website features photos and abstracts of each program as well as the specific curriculum connections for each grade so that teachers can best incorporate the programs into their plans.

The Galt Museum & Archives is renowned for its educational and community programming. Their classes introduce students from preschool to Grade 8 to the history of Lethbridge and southern Alberta. Using real and replica artifacts and documents, students are assisted in exploring the history and culture of our region. These popular programs have, in just the last decade, introduced more than 100,000 students to the history and cultures that make up southern Alberta.

The new Museum Educator at the Galt, Ashley Henrickson, has been working with the Galt’s communications staff to build the website. She has also been working to integrate class and transportation booking systems into her processes “Ashley Henrickson joined the Galt’s team in December and is doing a fabulous job of creating efficiencies,” says Executive Director Susan Burrows-Johnson, “as well as bringing us some new innovative programming.”

“We are excited to provide this tool to teachers so that even more classes can experience our great educational programming.” says Henrickson, “We want as many students, parents and teachers as possible to experience what we have to offer.”

An important component of the educational programs at the Galt Museum is that transportation to and from the Museum is free for schools located in Lethbridge. Bussing costs are subsidized by the Friends of the Galt Museum & Archives through their periodic fundraiser activities like their family-friendly Friends Harvest Barn Dance in October, featuring the Great Canadian Barn Dance Band.
