2018 Summer Cemetery Tours

Lethbridge—The Galt Museum & Archives’ popular Summer Cemetery Tours are back, this year led by our Program Coordinator Erynn Gordon-Konowalchuk and our Museum Educator LaRae Smith. Six tours will be offered, with three at the Mountain View Cemetery on Tue JUL 17, Wed AUG 01 and Tue AUG 14; and three tours at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Wed JUL 18, Tue JUL 31 and Wed AUG 15. Each Cemetery Tour will run from 7–8:30 pm on the scheduled date.

“Our summertime tours are a great and respectful way to lean about local history,” says Smith. “I explain cemetery symbols and history, share stories of past residents, highlight special areas in the cemeteries, and answer visitor questions”

The St. Partick’s Cemetery, located at the west end of 6 Avenue North, started in 1886 and contains stories that stretch from the days of miners and pioneers to the present day. The tour will feature fascinating stories of the Lethbridgians who worked and lived here in decades and centuries past. The Mountain View Cemetery, located on Scenic Drive at 11 Street South, has amazing stories from mayors, miners, surgeons, painters and whisky traders. This tour delves into the real histories on Lethbridge. These tours are suitable for teenagers, adults and seniors.

Tickets are $4 per person or $3 for Galt Annual Pass Holders, plus GST. They are available at the Galt Museum Store, at www.galtmuseum.com/tickets and 403.320-3954.
