‘ARCHIVES PROGRAM’ FOR RESIDENTS AND VISITORS

Lethbridge – Local residents and visitors to the area curious about how to scan and preserve family photos, how to use archival resources or, specifically, how to conduct family history research, will be interested in the topics covered this summer in the Archives Program at the Galt Museum & Archives — held monthly on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm. Program admission is included in the cost of museum admission, and is free to annual pass holders.

“We have offered these topics before,” says Archivist Andrew Chernevych, “and they are popular with both local residents and visitors to the area. Some from away may have connections locally, or can take what they learn and apply it at archives in their community.”

ARCHIVES PROGRAM Summer SCHEDULE:

Thu JUN 04 Just Scan It Scanning your family photos is an effective way of preserving them: digital images are easy to copy and share with your loved ones! Come learn how to scan photographic prints, negatives and slides and store them digitally long term. Basic computer skills required.

Thu JUL 02 Archives 101 People know museums, people know libraries, but archives often remain a mystery. This is a great opportunity to get introduced to the fantastic historical resources at the Galt Archives. Tour the archival facility with the Galt Archivist, learn the rules and procedures, and find out how to search for records through our easy-to-use online database.

Thu AUG 13 Basics of Family History Research Many people would like to research their family history but don’t know how to start. Susan Haga, Vice President of the Lethbridge & District Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society, will give you a primer on how to get your project off the ground, find resources, organize materials, and stay motivated.

Admission fees apply (admission is free for Annual Pass holders); registration is not required. Adults pay $6, seniors $5, and students $3, which includes exhibit access.
