How have immigration patterns in the past affected the face of Canada today? How has Canadian citizenship changed over the ages? What does Canadian citizenship mean today? What does the Government of Canada require individuals from other countries to know and do in order to become a Canadian citizen? These are the central questions that Citizenship Judge Joan May Way will address in this interactive and informative presentation, as she brings real-life insights from her role as a Citizenship Judge.

Judge Way was appointed as a Citizenship Judge in Calgary in October 2008, and is one of 3 Citizenship Judges in Alberta. She has devoted most of her life to volunteering in her community, local schools, and church. In addition to working in the oil sector and the public school system, she has taught English as a Second Language programs for new immigrants. She has been a host for students from around the world in her home and received service awards for dedication to schools. Judge Way holds a Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics from the University of Calgary and a Masters in Library and Information Sciences from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
