The Galt has two types of box programs: Learning boxes are designed for school age children and memory or reminiscence boxes are designed for both adults and children. Boxes can be rented at no cost for a period of two weeks. For more information or to reserve a box, please contact Belinda. Memory Boxes, or Reminiscence Boxes, are themed boxes of local memories. Each box contains
and may include
Some boxes also have video and audio tapes to bring back the sights and sounds of yesteryear. Memory boxes are especially useful as a stimulating resource to support reminiscence work with groups of older people and may also be used for inter-generational work. The Memory Box themes available at the Galt are: shoes, quilts, school days, World War II, babies, weddings, toys and games, Christmas, and Japan. These boxes were generously made by the Therapeutic Recreation class at Lethbridge Community College and sponsored by the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Lethbridge Lodge #2. |
Learning Boxes are school programs that can loaned out to schools. All of the artifacts, background information, photographs, and supplies needed for the program are available in the box. Programs that may be borrowed are Obi & Origami [Japanese culture] and Making Do or Doing Without [Great Depression]. The Galt also has an education collection: artifacts which can be loaned out to schools and used for hands-on, interactive work. |
