Seek Your Own Proof Galt Museum Field Mission Launch

Lethbridge - The Galt Museum & Archives is pleased to announce it is the first Canadian museum to participate in Seek Your Own Proof - a new online and real-life history and science game. The brainchild of Lethbridge native and University of Lethbridge graduate Jason Suriano and business partner Ken Bautista of Rocketfuel Productions Inc. in Edmonton, Rocketfuel was recognized as "Most Promising New Company" at the Canadian New Media Awards.

Scotch & Burns honours Robbie Burns and Stewart Christie

The Galt invites Scots and non-Scots to celebrate the 251 birthday of Scottish poet Robbie Burns during this year's Scotch & Burns event on Friday, January 22 beginning at 7:00 pm, when Scots of all tartans gather to pay tribute to Scotland's favourite son. This year the event will also commemorate long-time local supporter Stewart Christie.

Lethbridge and area volunteers take note! The Galt Museum & Archives has signed up for Disney's 2010 "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day." program - a North American initiative celebrating and inspiring volunteerism - with dozens of flexible volunteer opportunities for all ages.

Special Guest at Gold Medal Eggstravaganza

Celebrations of Easter allow families to relax and spend time together. The Galt Museum and Archives invites parents and children to spend time together at this year's Gold Medal Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 11 between 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Children will be able to have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, colour Easter eggs and learn how to draw cartoons with Brian & Company, participate in other activities and crafts, and meet Paralympian and gold medalist Joanne Kelly.

Scotch & Burns celebrates 250th birthday of Robbie Burns

Adopt-An-Artifact Online Fundraiser

From a fashionable 1960s men’s bathing suit to a pair of grass skis used in the Sugar Bowl in the early 1980s, a
beautiful 1920s beaded evening dress to a WWII flight simulator, the Galt has made these and 37 other artifacts in its care available for “adoption” on the Adopt-an-Artifact ’08 website where bids can be placed on items of choice – online or by phone – before 5:00 pm MST on December 30.

Cafe Galt topics shed light on POW Camp life

Camp 133, Lethbridge's Second World War prisoner of war camp, was a city unto itself. Designed to hold 12,500 prisoners, it at one time housed over 13,000 men! Considering the population of Lethbridge at the time was nearly 15,000, the camp had a profound effect during its four years of operation.

Museum Free Day

The Galt Museum & Archives presents Museum Free Day on Saturday, January 27 to celebrate the opening of Auschwitz: The Eva Brewster Story exhibit. Coincidentally, January 27 is the same day Auschwitz was liberated in 1945 by the Russian Army. The date is now commemorated by the United Nations as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
