Optical Lens Tester and Trial Lenses, ca. 1935

Purchased by Dr. Cliff Palmer along with a medical practice in Lethbridge, from Dr. A. Ashdown Marshall of Calgary. The trial lenses became obsolete with the introduction of new equipment that had the various types of lenses inside. These lenses were then used by Dr. Palmer when he did examinations on the Indian Reserves as a backup.
Cliff Palmer was born in Lethbridge in 1916, and went to optometric college in Toronto. He graduated from optometry school in 1937 and started practicing in Winnipeg at the Hudson's Bay Company. He then worked for Dr. Marshall in Calgary and in 1938 was transferred to Lethbridge. Six months later he purchased the practice and remained in practice here until his retirement in 1976.
