WELCOME TO THE GALT ARCHIVES' ONLINE CATALOGUE DATABASE!

We hope you will find the database a useful tool in exploring the history of Lethbridge and southwestern Alberta. A few things about the database will help you understand and use it to your maximum benefit.

The database developed from a paper-based system of finding aids created in the early 1980s. The catalogue information on paper was typed into a database program with fields and descriptive formats created by the Galt Archives, based on accepted archival standards. The archives community in Canada has since developed and accepted Rules for Archival Description (RAD) as the national standard.

We are currently working to revise all of the catalogue information in our database to conform to RAD standards: our database is therefore a "work in progress". New information is continually added to the database and existing information is updated on a regular basis. We hope that you will share our enthusiasm - and forgive the small inconveniences - as we continue to expand and improve the Galt Archives database!
