P.J. Collins Urban landscape, painted by P.J. Collins (1884-1975), depicts downtown Lethbridge facing the southwest from the corner of 10th street and 3rd avenue. The artist painted the compressed image from the window of his room in the former Victoria Mansion late one evening in 1958. The work was gifted by the artist to Alex Snowden. The scene features the Seventy-Seven Oil Company located at 320-324 9th street south which, was owned and operated by Snowden. Collins emigrated from England to Canada in 1911 at age 27. He was a founding member of the Lethbridge Sketch Club and attended the Club's first meeting on October 7, 1932. Donated by William Snowden |
