Battle Dress Blouse

Battledress Blouse, c. 1942-1946
P20080033022

This uniform was worn by Douglas James Wilson. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1926, Wilson joined the Canadian Army in 1944. Within the first two weeks of his basic training, he became seriously ill and was consequently posted to hospital and convalesce sites for several months for treatment and rehabilitation.

In February 1945, an evaluation determined that Wilson should be re-classified as a "General Duty Man", postponing his overseas intentions indefinitely. Thereafter, he was posted to Research Station Suffield in Alberta, remaining there until transferred to Lethbridge's Camp 133 in February 1946. At the Camp, he assisted in the guarding of over ten thousand German prisoners of war. He was discharged from the Army and the Camp in May 1946.
