German Dress Dagger, ca. 1938

Second model navy dagger of the Third Reich, collected as war booty by Joseph Wright Hunt during World War II. Mr. Hunt enlisted in the Canadian Army Service Corp in Regina, in 1943. His original duty was to transport munitions but was later valued for his typing skills. He served as a clerk and saw active duty in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean, and Europe. Discharged in 1946, he completed his service as a lance corporal. He received the following medals and decorations for his service: 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp. The Galt collection also retains Joseph Hunt's uniform and other military gear.
