This straight jacket was used in the emergency room of the St. Michael's Hospital. The hospital was opened in 1931 on the corner of 9th Avenue and 14th Street. It originally operated as a fully functioning general hospital, including emergency room and delivery suite. However, after receiving direction from the Chinook Health Region, St. Michael's Hospital was converted into a Post Acute, Palliative and Long Term Care Health Centre. Before demolition of the original building in 1996, St. Michael's donated many items, including this straight jacket, to the Galt Museum.
