This one of a kind piece of art is a depiction of "the big bang", according to artist Samuel Lurie. Lurie was born in South Africa in 1915. He received his primary and secondary education there. Followed by University in London, England where he graduated with a degree in Architecture. After working in England on such projects as the reconstruction of University College in London, he began his own practice and worked in England and Israel. Eventually, he ended up in Lethbridge as the city's first director of the Lethbridge District Planning Commission. Lurie took part in many significant projects to Lethbridge, such as the Genevieve E. Yates Memorial Centre, the Lethbridge College and the Lethbridge Exhibition Pavillion. Lurie spent over a year creating this piece, passing the lonely hours after his wife, Otilla, passed away. Though this piece is associated with Lurie's great sorrow, it celebrates a great contribution to the development of our city.
